Austria requires all vehicles using motorways and expressways to display a valid vignette. The digital e-vignette system has replaced traditional stickers, making it more convenient for travelers.

Special Toll Roads

Some Alpine routes require additional tolls: Brenner Motorway, Tauern Motorway, and various mountain passes. These are separate from the standard vignette.

Automated camera systems read license plates and verify vignette validity. Fines for violations start at €300 and can reach €800 for repeat offenses.
